Ms. Hiott holds a Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in Information Systems from Kennesaw State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Minor in English from North Carolina Wesleyan College. She received an Associates of Arts from Spartanburg Technical College.
Ms. Hiott is an International Certified Municipal Clerk (MMC), Certified Georgia Municipal Clerk (CMC), and holds the Georgia Records Management Professional Certificate (GRMP). Prior to being appointed as City Clerk of Mableton, Ms. Hiott held appointed positions as City Clerk for the cities of Acworth, Roswell, Smyrna, and Brookhaven.

Ms. Benson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Culture with a concentration in Legal Communications. She has extensive experience in overseeing and processing legal documents and other record keeping operations.
The Clerk’s Office strives to provide courteous and professional service to elected officials, city staff, and most importantly, the public.


The City Clerk is the official record keeper for the City. This office is responsible for recording and maintaining the Council’s official actions in minutes, coordinating, and distributing the agenda, maintaining contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and agreements, and coordinating the records management and retention program for the City.

The City Clerk is the liaison with the Cobb County Elections and Registration for city elections and qualifying of candidates. The City Clerk is the filing officer for the Georgia Campaign Contribution Disclosure Report and the Personal Financial Disclosure Statement. All filed reports are available by request to the City Clerk’s Office.
The Georgia Open Records Act establishes the right of every citizen to inspect and take a copy of all records except those specifically exempt from being open. When an agency receives a record request under the Open Records Act, it must comply with guidelines established in the law: • The agency has three business days from the date of the request to determine if the requested records, or portions of such records, are open or closed. • If the records are closed, the agency must respond in writing specifying the legal authority for restricting access to the records. • Otherwise, the records are to be provided within the three-day period or a plan for providing access to the records provided to the requester.
The Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq) requires that all city records, except those excluded by court order or by law, be open for personal inspection by any citizen of Georgia in a reasonable time and place. However, no public officer or agency shall be required to prepare reports, summaries, or compilations not in existence at the time of the request. Please review the Georgia Open Records Act for additional information.
General municipal elections are held on the Tuesday following the first
Monday in November in each odd-numbered year (Georgia Election Code
21-2-9 (c). Special elections will be held as needed.
The offices of Councilmembers for Districts 2 (two), 4 (four), and 6 (six) were
elected on November 4, 2025. Pursuant to the City Charter Section 5:11 for
the City of Mableton, there shall be elected the mayor and councilmembers
from Council Districts 1, 3, and 5. The next election for mayor, and
council members for Districts 1, 3, and 5 will be held in November 2027.
Pursuant to Georgia Code Title 21. Elections 21-2-131 (1) (B) the qualifying
fee shall be 3 percent of the total gross salary of the office paid in the
preceding calendar year including all supplements authorized by law if a
salaried office. The qualifying fee for mayor and councilmembers from
Districts 1, 3, and 5 will be published in February 2027.
Pursuant to the City Charter Section 2.13 the annual salary for the mayor is
$30,000 and the annual salary of each council member shall be $20,000.
Each candidate shall meet the qualifications of the City of Mableton Charter
and Code of the City of Mableton, as well as applicable state laws.
The City of Mableton has contracted with Cobb County Board of Elections and
Registration to conduct qualifying, the election, and if any run-off.
