**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

City of Mableton Issues Fraud Warning to Businesses & Residents
City urges public to verify payment requests and report suspicious messages.

MABLETON, GA (Oct. 14, 2025)—The City of Mableton is alerting residents and businesses to an increase in fraudulent emails designed to impersonate City departments and request payments. The emails appear to come from official sources but use false addresses and request wire transfers or other forms of payment.

These messages are not legitimate City communications.

All official City emails come from accounts ending in @mableton.gov or [email protected].

Residents should verify the sender of any message that requests payment and contact the City directly before sending money, clicking links, or providing personal information.

The City will never initiate payment requests by unsolicited email. Residents who receive suspicious messages should call the City’s Department of Finance at (404) 490-1323 to confirm whether the request is valid.

The City’s Information Technology Department has filed reports with Google Security and the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) to support investigations into these scams. Residents who believe they have been targeted should also file a report at www.ic3.gov and contact their bank immediately if funds were transferred.

Hassan Glenn, Director of Communications for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, said residents should treat any unexpected request for money as a major red flag.

“If someone emails or calls you asking for payment, stop and verify before you act,” Glenn said. “Call the organization’s main office directly using the number listed on their official website—not the number in the message. Scammers rely on urgency and fear to trick people into sending money. Slowing down and double-checking can save you thousands of dollars.”

Anyone who believes they’ve been scammed should contact the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Forgery and Fraud Unit at (770) 499-4752. Reports must be filed in person at 185 Roswell Street NE, Marietta, GA.

This advisory is part of the City’s ongoing effort to safeguard residents, strengthen awareness of online threats, and ensure that public resources remain protected.
